What is the Nurburgring?

The Nurburgring is many things, the “Nordschleife” is an old race track some 22km long that used to host Grand Prix racing back when Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Jackie Stewart and many well known race car drivers were racing. Eventually Formula 1 cars outgrew the track and the new Grand Prix track was built that holds the current German Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The Nordschleife and the Grand Prix track meet and form the famous Nurburgring next to the town of Nurburg. Each year in May there is a famous 24 hour race held at the Nurburgring. Constantly through the year when the weather is good the whole area is a motor sport and tourist attraction.

When not being used for racing the public are able to experience the Nordschleife and pay a toll to drive the circuit. The great part is that there is no speed limit and any vehicle providing it is roadworthy can go on the circuit to tour the famous Nordschleife.

You are able to drive at any speed and providing you follow a few simple rules and you can experience a circuit that many famous drivers have driven. What makes it unique is the length and the amount of time required to master this track. It is 22km long and has 73 corners. Your first lap will blow you away and leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about driving on a circuit. It’s the ultimate circuit, but be warned, it’s addictive!
